Celebrating GREEN

05 June 2013:  WED: World Environment Day

World Environment Day is a very important day on the green calendar each year as it represents the worlds participation in the lowering of carbon footprint.  This year the theme is Food.  The focus is on how food is wasted throughout the world and how wastage leads to an increased carbon footprint.
At Ubizane we try and waste as little food as possible by making minimal food and ensuring we only cook for the necessary amount of people.  That is why we ask our guests early to reserve for dinners and breakfasts!  We also recycle our food that end up being thrown away by adding it to our compost heap.  This way we can use the food to grow vegetables and put back in what we take out of mother Earth.

22 May 2013:  International Biodiversity Day

For Biodiversity day this year, the United Nations decided to make the theme "Water Biodiversity", following on last years "Marine Biodiversity" theme.

Ubizane recognizes the importance of the day with water being such an important aspect of every living organism's daily life.  We are spreading awareness by encouraging our readers and guests to do at least one thing to save water on this day!

22 April 2013:  Earth Day

We celebrated Earth Day by posting facts about pollution and conservation to encourage our social site users to help conserve the environment.  This day was all about appreciating our beautiful planet!

23 March 2013:  Earth Hour

Earth Hour is one of our favourite celebrations.  We usually hold a Bush Dinner or a Boma dinner and this year we decided that the beautiful weather could not go to waste and held a Boma candlelit dinner. We posted on our social networks and we changed our email signature to a special Earth Hour encouragement poster. Our lights were off for the entire dinner which was from 7pm to 10pm - making our Earth Hour a three hour initiative.  For photo's please CLICK HERE.
